On the nose, ripe apple, citrus fruits, and grapefruit greet you. The Biserno Campo di Sasso Occhione Bibbona is the first white wine from Tenuta di Biserno, originating from the west of Tuscany – vlak bij de Tyrreense kust. Het kloppend hart van de Super-Tuscan wijnen! Gemaakt van Vermentino druiven. Hier voert rijp, zacht fruit de boventoon, ondersteund door een frisse mineraliteit die kenmerkend is voor deze kustregio.
The name refers to the ‘Occhione’, a rare waterfowl that breeds in the dunes of Marina di Bibbona. Just like this bird, the wine is light-footed and refined, yet with unexpected depth. An original white wine, produced in very limited quantities under the supervision of winemaker Helena Lindberg. Be sure to also try the Biserno Insoglio!
Refined, harmonious, and round – this is how this wine opens up on the palate. Fresh citrus fruit takes center stage, with accents of lemon and grapefruit. The initial taste is silky smooth and caresses the palate, after which the flavors gradually unfold across the entire tongue.
The Mediterranean influence is clearly noticeable, with tropical fruit nuances that add warmth. Aromas of white blossom and subtle spiciness provide layering. The subtly saline character and the light, characteristic bitterness provide tension and length. The finish is lively and refreshing, with that typical minerality that provides structure. Ideal to pair with:
In 1995, Lodovico discovered Antinori the special qualities of an area on the edge of BolgheriAfter thorough analysis, he saw the unique potential and decided to start a new project there. Together with the Antinori family (Piero, Lodovico, Ilaria, and son Niccolò) and landowner Umberto Mannoni, Tenuta di Biserno was established. The estate borders the old village of Bolgheri and offers a magnificent view of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The Occhione Bibbona comes from the Campo di Sasso area, which covers 56 hectares. This zone is located close to the sea and has sandy soils, ideal for varieties such as Vermentino and Viognier. This part distinguishes itself from the Bolgheri area, where the soil is more stony and red grapes, in particular, come into their own.
The vineyards in Campo di Sasso have a sandy, gravelly soil that provides extra finesse. With 6,500 vines per hectare, the planting is dense and the terroir is utilized to the maximum. The harvest takes place by hand in September, after which the grapes are rigorously selected and gently pressed.
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh aromas and delicate structure. The 13% alcohol content provides a beautiful balance between liveliness and roundness. Sealed with a traditional cork, this wine reflects the character of the waterfowl: elegant, airy, yet full of complexity. An excellent choice for lovers of Viognier or Mediterranean white wines.
