A Gran Reserva for the price of a good Reserva

The red wine Bodega Valserrano Rioja Reserva undergoes a long aging process in wood and in the bottle. The wine is not released to the market for three years. However, here at Valserrano, the Bodega Valserrano Rioja Reserva is transferred after fermentation into American and French oak barrels, where it ages for 24 months, just like a Gran Reserva. That is allowed! A Gran Reserva for the price of a Reserva. What more could you want! It is precisely the barrel aging and the use of new American oak barrels that give the wine delicious mature notes.

The ruby-red wine has aromas of cedarwood, complemented by notes of dried fruit, as well as coconut, raisins, and spices such as nutmeg and clove. On the palate, the wine is super soft and opulent, again featuring notes of ripe fruit, raisins, creamy vanilla notes, and lively acidity. The vanilla notes, derived from the American oak, always make the wines very recognizable. The finish is long and harmonious with a beautiful tannin structure. A powerful yet very elegant wine. The Bodega Valserrano Rioja Reserva is largely made from Tempranillo, supplemented with a small percentage of Graciano for added elegance. Although Rioja is perfectly fine to drink in the summer, there is often a winter association with this wine. It also pairs so well with winter stews.

Valserrano is Bodegas de la Marquesa, it doesn't matter.

Bodegas de La Marquesa has been known as Valserrano since time immemorial. This bodega has been producing grapes for a very long time and is one of the most authentic wineries in Rioja. Unlike a number of large bodegas, they use almost exclusively their own grapes, allowing the characteristic features of the climate and soil to come to the fore—something that is so typical of the Rioja region!

The cellars of Valserrano are, to say the least, remarkable. They lie deep underground and are more than 200 years old. The constant temperature and humidity create a natural climate in which the wines can age perfectly. Valserrano is located in Rioja Alavesa, the highest region of Rioja. Despite the growth and success of the winery, the family has remained modest, although they speak of their wines with considerable pride.
