This Bon Courage Pinotage has a beautiful aroma of blackcurrants, plums, vanilla, and coffee. Tertiary aromas also carry through in taste and scent: leather, earth, and toasted notes. On the palate, the taste of ripe, candied fruit opens up as well. The Bon Courage Pinotage also has a certain spiciness, partly thanks to the 12 months of aging in oak barrels. Elegant in structure and a beautiful balance, as well as a good integration of the wood aging. Due to the soft tannins, the wine is already very tasty when young. It can easily last for several years since its vintage.
Located 150 km from Cape Town on the Breede River lies the Robertson wine region; valley of wines and roses. Robertson is a wine-producing area in the Breede River Valley region of the Western Cape. Robertson is one of South Africa’s better-known wine-producing regions. It is associated with the production of rich, fruit-driven red and white wines, usually made from the Chardonnay and Shiraz grape varieties, as well as sparkling wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The area covers the land immediately surrounding the town of Robertson, from the Eilandia district in the west to Bonnievale in the east. It is separated from the semi-arid Klein Karoo region to the north by the Langeberg Mountains. The Breede River meanders through the region and many of Robertson's scattered vineyards are located along its tributaries and at the foot of the mountains. The Bon Courage Estate is located just outside the town of Robertson where the Breede River meets two smaller rivers.
The Estate has enjoyed the full dedication and expertise of the Bruwer family since 1818, whose ancestors hail from the French Loire. Today, daily management is in the hands of Andre and his son Jacques, the third generation. Bon Courage proudly possesses the most modern production facilities necessary for the production of true quality wines.
The climate is also important for the production of high-quality wines. The days are of course warm and very rich in sunshine hours. Yet because the nights are relatively cool due to the presence of the three rivers, the grapes obtain optimal ripeness and aromas. The grapes are selected by hand, after the early harvest in the morning. By cutting away the unnecessary leaves from the vines during the growth of the grapes, the grapes receive maximum sun and thus ripen optimally. Only the best ripening bunches are left on the stick and the rest is cut away. This of course reduces the return, which is expensive, but always in favor of quality.
