The red wine Castel Vento Cabernet Sauvignon is a true Cabernet, but with an Italian touch. Cabernet Sauvignon is a typical French grape that is common in Bordeaux. This Organic Cabernet Sauvignon from Castel Vento has the aroma and taste of a Cabernet Sauvignon from Bordeaux, complemented by a refined Italian touch.
CastelVento is the second line of the domain Luretta. We are proud to have succeeded in including this wine in our assortment. A top wine at a very good price. This is a great quality wine that is also affordable, versatile from aperitif to accompaniment to hearty meat dishes.
In the late 1980s, the Salamini family bought land around their village of Gazzola and planted vines. Without experience in winemaking, but with extensive tasting experience, Lucio Salamini and his father Felice started their Luretta wine estate. That was the start of a great wine adventure. They named the estate after the Val Luretta. The valley of the Luretta River is situated in the hills above Piacenza, in northwestern Italy, in the Emilia-Romagna region. The vineyards are scattered in clusters across the hills, as well as in other river valleys. There is great biodiversity and the soil varies. The family has the ambition to produce wines that hold their own on an international level.
After turbulent first years, Luretta have developed their own style. Lucio indicates that they want to express the typicality of the terroir and grape varieties in the wine. That starts with the right grape in the right place. ‘Next, we want the best possible grapes at harvest. That is why we work organically.’ Alberto Faggiani is the former winemaker of the Jermannin Collio estate. With his arrival in 2012, Lucio achieved a further quality boost. They determine the harvest time by tasting, and from then on, the wines ferment with their own yeasts.
The CastelVento wines come from vineyards in the lowest parts of the valley, with more clay in the soil. As a result, the wines are powerful and full in taste and aroma!
This wine has a dark red, earthy color with purple hues. An intense aroma of blackberries, dark cherries, herbs, and undergrowth. Juicy mouthfeel, earthy, a hint of tobacco, with delicious ripe dark red berries. Some moderate tannins. And a nice, long finish to savor for a long time.
Roast meat, red meat from the BBQ, hard Italian cheeses and blue cheeses.
