A white Burgundy, but no Chardonnay!?

Discover the second white grape of the Burgundy: Aligoté! The Chavy-Chouet Bourgogne Aligoté Les Marechaux is a refined white wine from the famous Burgundy region in France. This wine is made from 100% Aligoté grapes, a grape variety that is still unknown to many white Burgundy lovers. Unjustly so! This deliciously lush, lively, and exotic wine, with a light touch of citrus and yellow fruit, deserves to be discovered.

In the shadow of, but with great potential!

Aligoté is a grape that is often overshadowed by Chardonnay, yet it is the only other permitted white grape variety in this region! In the past, people knew it for the simpler wines from this area. But that does not do justice to the potential this grape has to offer! Aligoté can produce very tasty, elegant, and flavorful wines! And there are now more and more top producers doing just that, such as Domaine Chavy-Chouet. A Meursault producer who has truly managed to create a class wine from it! The vineyards are located in the Côte d’Or, the northern part, on calcareous soil, which contributes to the unique taste and minerality of the wine. The Chavy-Chouet Bourgogne Aligoté Les Marechaux offers excellent value for money and is perfect for lovers of elegant, refreshing, and above all, characterful white wines.

Taste profile of the Chavy-Chouet Bourgogne Aligoté Les Marechaux

Upon opening a bottle of Chavy-Chouet Bourgogne Aligoté Les Marechaux, you are welcomed by a delightful nose of citrus and green apple, complemented by subtle floral notes. On the palate, you taste vibrant flavors of lime, white peach, and a hint of almond and brioche. The wine has a crisp acidity and refreshing minerality, creating a beautiful balance and a long, refreshing finish. This wine is versatile and pairs perfectly with shellfish, charcuterie, poultry, fish dishes, and soft (goat) cheese.

A domaine in Meursault and Puligny Montrachet and a manual harvest

So, quality is certainly to be expected! Chavy-Chouet is one of the oldest families in Puligny-Montrachet. Romaric Chavy, the current owner, took over the estate in 2014 and is the eighth-generation winemaker in his family. He learned the trade from his father, Hubert Chavy, who founded the winery in 1982. Romaric has dedicated himself entirely to viticulture with a free, intense, and dynamic approach. His goal is to create top wines that perfectly reflect the essence of their appellations – Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Volnay, and Pommard. Whether it concerns AOP Bourgogne wines or Premier Crus, Romaric treats all his vineyards with the same care and dedication. And always with respect for nature! The 15 hectares owned by Romaric are cultivated organically as much as possible. Just like his father, Romaric does not filter his wines, so that their purity is fully expressed.
