The Azienda Agricola Damilano Barolo Lecinquevigne is a blend of 5 different vineyards in the Barolo region of Piedmont: Castellero, La Cavourrina, Ravera, Bussia, and Le Coste. All vineyards have a limestone/loam soil. While not a “single vineyard” wine like Damilano’s Cannubi and Brunate, it is one of the pillars upon which the wine estate is built.
The history of Azienda Agricola Damilano dates back to 1890 when the great-grandfather began making his own wine. Today, Paolo, Mario, and Guido, the 4th generation, lovingly hold the reins. Always looking ahead and not afraid of new developments, their sole aim is to further refine the quality of their wines.
The wine has a pronounced orange sheen and a moderately intense color. However, it is difficult to visually assess its age immediately. The vines are 30 to 50 years old and provide the wine with great power and energy. As mentioned, a ruby red wine with an orange sheen and a pronounced and complex nose of rose, leather, tobacco, and subtle aromas of violets and tar. The wine is very powerful and has a lot of 'power'. Firm yet very soft and ripe tannins provide backbone and the potential for long aging. They can even age for up to 15 years. The wine has a long, very present finish. A wine for the true connoisseur.
This vintage reveals the true character of the terroir, as the weather conditions were very classic for the perfect growth of Nebbiolo: not too hot, not too dry, not too cold, not too wet. – Alfio Cavallotto van Cavallotto
2016 is an exceptional vintage, with great purity of the grape variety. Late harvests give more character and complexity to the wine. – Paolo Manzone
The expression of cru terroirs is often less clear in hot years. The distinct expressions of the different villages and vineyards are told in a magnificent way with the 2016 Barolos. – Walter Anselma van Schiavenza
The progression of the seasons resulted in slower development in the vineyards than in recent, warmer vintages. As a result, all the distinctive elements are now coming to the fore. – Giacomo Conterno van Aldo Conterno
2016 is a beautiful vintage, rather classic with crisp and direct wines. – Roberto Conterno van Giacomo Conterno
Truffle dishes and Barolo are made for each other, because they literally grow on the same soil.
