The Delas Frères Crozes Hermitage Les Launes is always one of those cuvées that offers good value for money when drunk young. Here, you really get your money's worth! It is a good entry-level wine from the 2020 vintage in the Northern Rhône. And it doesn't require long aging like its big brothers Hermitage and Côte Rotie. It is deliciously drinkable right away. The Delas Frères Crozes Hermitage Les Launes has a deep garnet red color. Immediately, a lovely open nose of blueberries and cherries with hints of smoke and black pepper. A soft tannin structure and fresh acidity give the wine a playful feel. Medium-bodied, supple, and easy to drink, with a soft, silky texture finish. Lightly juicy finish, with enough red fruit character. The tannin structure is clearly present, ensuring good aging potential. James Suckling gives it a nice 90 points.
This wine pairs well with grilled meats such as spare ribs or a leg of lamb rubbed with Provençal herbs. It is also perfect for winter with a good braised beef stew.
The celebrated wine company Delas Frères was founded in 1835. After a decade of decline, its reputation for high-quality wines has been restored since 1996. Major investments have been made. The company's new management has made significant investments in the Saint-Jean-de-Muzols production site near Tournon-sur-Rhône. Currently, Delas Frères is truly back in the top 5 of wine companies in the Northern Rhône. The highly motivated team is proud to play its part in the revival of the quality of this venerable wine company from the Rhône Valley. A specially designed cellar for the vinification of red wines, as well as a complete restructuring of the aging cellars, are among the new quality measures at Delas, all aimed at preserving and strengthening the expression of the terroir.
Their vineyards are the largest of the northern appellations of the Rhône. They span 11 municipalities in the Drôme department, on the left bank of the Rhône River. In this location, not only is the soil composition of great importance, but the Mistral wind, notorious in winter, has a major influence on the quality of the wines.
