The Ventoux from Delas Frères has a deep ruby red color with a hint of garnet in its youth. The bouquet consists primarily of red fruit with a light spiciness. The aromatic power of the Grenache and Syrah comes fully into its own in this wine, while the freshness is beautifully preserved. This clearly speaks of craftsmanship! This AOC Ventoux comes from vineyards in the heart of the Rhone, in the municipalities of Mazan and Goult. The blend consists primarily of Grenache and Syrah. The vineyards stretch along the left bank of the Rhône River, at the foot of Mount Ventoux.
The different grape varieties in this cuvée undergo vinification separately. The winemaking of the Grenache grapes takes place in stainless steel tanks, as tradition dictates. Daily pumping over the juice from the must ensures a gentle extraction of all the wine's characteristic properties: the deep color, the juicy and spicy aromas, and a powerful yet luscious mouthfeel. In some cases, the Syrah grapes even retain their stems to allow the power of this grape's aromas to be expressed.
After malolactic fermentation, which gives the wine its round, full flavor, both grapes come together in the perfect blend. The juice then goes to stainless steel tanks in the cooled winery. Here, the wine continues to age for 6 to 8 months. Afterward, it is bottled.
The Ventoux is rich in power, red fruit, and spiciness. This makes it the perfect accompaniment to spicy dishes. Think, for example, of a Provençal stew, a charcuterie board or other cold meats, mixed grills, or poultry. This wine also pairs very well with asparagus and steamed fish.
The Delas Frères winery was founded in 1835. By 1879, this winery had built a worldwide reputation and won its first gold medals. To meet the increasing demand for wine after the Second World War, the company invested in the purchase of vineyards in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Hermitage. In the 1960s, Delas Frères was one of the leading wine companies in the Rhône, with its own vineyards in Hermitage, Cornas, Côte Rôtie, and Condrieu. To this day, Delas Frères owns top vineyards.
