Lots of dark fruit! Plum, cherry, blackberry, leather, and a hint of clove. The Esporão Colheita Tinto is a round and very elegant wine from the Alentejo in PortugalMade entirely organically from local grape varieties, this wine boasts a captivating aromatic profile, including ripe purple plums, juicy berries, and a hint of white pepper. Subtle green, vegetal notes can also be discovered. The wine has a soft, pleasant structure that perfectly balances the ripe fruit with the mineral and earthy accents. The soft structure makes the Esporão Colheita Tinto instantly accessible, while its complexity continues to fascinate wine lovers.
The Esporão Colheita Tinto has a rich palate that feels smooth and full on the palate. The ripe fruit, such as plums and berries, is beautifully combined with a mineral undertone and earthy nuances. The wine has a clean and fresh finish, with a fine length that leaves the flavors lingering. This versatile red wine pairs well with numerous dishes and seasons. In autumn, it perfectly accompanies a bowl of hearty tomato soup. During winter days, it complements a heartwarming beef stew. In spring, it accentuates the flavor of grilled lamb. Summer barbecues with red meat gain an extra dimension with this wine. It is also excellent as an aperitif, for example with Spanish albondigas or a board of mild cheeses.
Herdade do Esporão, founded in 1267, Esporão is located in the Alentejo, Portugal’s largest wine region. This is deep inland, almost on the Spanish border. This historic region covers approximately one-third of the country and is known for its vast hilly fields (the montado), hot summers, and cold winters. The soil in Alentejo varies from granite to slate, which contributes to the diversity of the wines. Esporão manages 1,800 hectares of land, of which 700 hectares are planted with vineyards and 80 hectares with olive trees. The grapes for the Colheita Tinto are the Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tinta Miúda, Alfrocheiro.
At Esporão, the emphasis is placed on sustainable viticulture and careful vinification. The wine ages in stainless steel tanks, preserving the pure character of the grapes and creating a fresh, lively wine. The combination of craftsmanship and respect for nature ensures that the Esporão Colheita Tinto is a beautiful reflection of the Alentejo terroir. The grapes for this Colheita wine come exclusively from their own vineyards. Prefer white? Also try the white Esporao Colheita Branco
