Rufina is the smallest and coolest Chianti zone, in the Sieve Valley, northeast of Florence. The wines from here are typically fuller and firmer than the standard base Chiantis. Some of the best and longest-aging wines come from here. Consequently, this Fattoria de Basciano Chianti Rufina is a densely structured red. It is rich, with lively acidity and refined tannins that propel the aromas and flavors of black cherries, blackberries, bitter chocolate, leather, iron, wood, and tobacco. Fine balance, length, and character. On the palate, there is a beautiful combination of bright fruit, crisp acidity, and well-made, moderate tannins that give it a long and lively finish. The wine is made from Sangiovese and the local Colorino grape.
Drink from now until 2032. It's fine to order a case and put it in the cellar. So you can pretty much forget about them. You really don't have to finish it all immediately (that is difficult, though). I hardly dare say it, but this is just really tasty with a homemade thick hamburger with cheese and tomato from the BBQ. Also delicious with aged cheeses, for example matured pecorino or aged Dutch cheese.
Sourced from selected vineyards in the vicinity of Rufina, Tuscany. The vineyards for Fattoria de Basciano Chianti Rufina are situated at an altitude of 300 m above sea level, are of marl origin, and very rich in limestone. The microclimate, which is dry and windy, is characterized by a lack of rain and a significant temperature range in the summer, making it ideal for the growth and ripening of the grapes. The estate comprises 30 ha of vineyards, 20 ha of olive groves, and 20 ha of forest.
Renzo Masi's family is a winemaking family through and through. They have been making wine in the Chianti region since 1900. The winery is located in the famous wine village of Rufina, where they produce Chianti, Chianti Riserva, and a number of modern, smooth wines. Their winery is called Basciano. Under this name, their best Chianti from the winery is marketed, namely the Rufina Riserva. Additionally, Fattoria di Basciano produces the blends I Pini and Il Corto using grapes from its own vineyard, both aged in French barriques, just as is done with Super Tuscans. You may soon find the latter in our assortment.
For several years, the company has been conducting a research program of the highest quality level, which has led to significant investments in both the planting of new vineyards and the construction of a modern wine preparation and aging cellar.
