The Fontodi Flaccianello Della Pieve is one of the best red wines in Italy. The 2018 vintage is the best the winery has ever produced! Furthermore, wine critics Robert Parker and Antonio Galloni both awarded this wine the exceptionally high score of 100 points. Few bottles of this top wine from the Fontodi winery are produced per vintage. But fortunately, we were able to secure several cases. This Super Tuscan can easily age for decades to come. A wine made for a grand moment.
The Fontodi ‘Flaccianello della Pieve’ is made from 100% Sangiovese. The grapes come from the oldest plots of the winery. The wine aged for 18 months in new oak barriques. A fresh and penetrating wine. The aromas of various dark fruits intensify as the wine is allowed to breathe longer. Great length, warm and pure with a beautiful balance. Very long potential.
The Flaccianello has a ruby red color with intense fruity aromas of plums and cherries, violets and vanilla. Full and juicy flavor thanks to the soft tannins. The finish is complex with impressions of cocoa, tobacco, and fruit. Yet, a description really isn't enough. You have to experience this wine!
Moreover, Fontodi is situated in the heart of Chianti Classico, precisely in the valley south of the town of Panzano, and is known as the “Conca d’Oro” (the Golden Shell) due to its amphitheater shape. A true and characteristic “Terroir,” famous for centuries for its tradition of quality winemaking, thanks in part to a unique combination of high altitude, calcareous clayey soil, abundant light, and a fantastic microclimate – warm and dry with a distinct difference between day and night temperatures.
The company has been owned by the Manetti family since 1968. Moreover, the family has for centuries engaged in another activity typical of the Chianti region: the production of the famous “terrecotte” tiles. Due to the connection with the territory and a great passion for quality, the estate has successfully evolved towards increasingly attentive cultivation of the vineyards and a more in-depth knowledge of the potential of Sangiovese in the Panzano zone.
