A juicy alpine meadow & bottled mountain air. This Pinot Bianco from Girlan is so wonderfully fresh

The entry-level Girlan Classici Pinot Bianco comes from hand-picked fruit. This is grown on the mineral-rich hills of Cornaiano, at altitudes ranging from 450 to 500 meters above sea level. The area in which they grow is rich in minerals, the result of sedimentation during the Ice Age. The Pinot Blanc yields firm, compact grapes with small, greenish berries. It has a spicy, fleshy aroma of kaffir lime, apple, and herbs, with delicious, zesty minerality and a pleasant bitterness in the finish. The delicate aroma, with a light apple blossom note, and the lively taste make Pinot Blanc the ideal wine for an aperitif. It pairs well with white meat and fish. Fantastic with white asparagus, served warm or in a green herb dressing. Also great with Gravad Lax !

The grapes are picked by hand and placed in small containers to prevent overpressure on the grapes. Gentle pressing and clarification of the must through natural sedimentation. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Aging on the lees in stainless steel tanks. At this level, simple fermentation takes place, with 10% still passing through malo to add some meat to the wine's spicy, alpine bones.

    Girlan rules in the mountains

Girlan is one of the finest ‘grower collectives’ in the spectacular Alto Adige of Northern Italy. A stone's throw from the Austrian and Swiss borders and surrounded by those strange jagged Dolomites, which produce exemplary white and red wines, they have also long encouraged their growers to focus on those varieties that best suit their soil, aspects, and altitudes. Consequently, they paved the way for single ‘municipality’ and single vineyard wines. Girlan was also one of the first collectives in Alto Adige to pay its growers based on the quality of their fruit and to apply strict controls on yields. In short, it is important to understand the central role that collective viticulture has played in Alto Adige. For a large number of reasons, including geographical isolation, mountainous topography, and small-to-medium farms, local growers have united in the past to form cooperatives.
