Tasty, dry, and fresh Australian Riesling

Wow! This Australian dry Riesling lives up to its reputation. Very typical. You smell apple, citrus, apricot, nectarine, flint, and a hint of petroleum. The Langmeil Wattle Brae Riesling is made from old vines planted between 1969 and 1970 in the Eden Valley, AustraliaThe vineyard, which owes its name to the surrounding native trees, is situated in a particularly cool climate zone by Australian standards. This cool climate is especially ideal for growing Riesling grapes! The wine has a delicate bouquet of lime and tropical fruit, complemented by refined notes of green apple, citrus blossom, and talc.

    Taste and food pairings

On the palate, this dry Langmeil Wattlebrae Riesling starts with a refreshing liveliness. It begins with clean notes of lime and Granny Smith apples that tingle the taste buds. Additionally, the acidity balance provides a nice tension. The long, mineral finish rounds it all off. This is truly typical Riesling, yay!

This wine pairs excellently with various dishes:

    • Fresh seafood, particularly oysters and smoked trout
    • Light Asian dishes with a spicy touch
    • Refined fish dishes such as sea bass or halibut
    • Light cheeses and fresh goat cheese
    • Vegetarian dishes with fresh herbs

    Winemaking / Vinification

The vineyards are planted on a soil of grey sandy loam with weathered granite. The grapes are then picked and gently pressed. Fermentation subsequently takes place at low temperatures to preserve the characteristic fresh acidity. A deliberate choice is made not to age in oak, resulting in a pure, mineral expression of the Riesling grape. The modest alcohol content of 11.5% ensures the wine's elegance and finesse.

    The Langmeil Winery

Langmeil has formed the life's work of the Lindner family for six generations. Over the years, they have developed into a leading winery in the Barossa ValleyIt is noteworthy that the winery recognizes the Kaurna, Ngadjuri, and Peramangk peoples with great respect as traditional stewards of the land.

The 2022 vintage was particularly challenging due to a devastating hailstorm in October. Nevertheless, the subsequent cool season ensured optimal conditions. This ultimately resulted in wines with beautiful flavor and color development. The Wattle Brae Riesling perfectly illustrates how Langmeil combines tradition with modern winemaking, resulting in a wine that exudes both authenticity and refinement.
