When it comes to Nebbiolo, you indeed quickly think of Barolo and Barbaresco. Without exception, robust wines where tannins quickly take center stage. True food wines, in any case. But it can be done differently! Marco Porello decided to experiment and came up with a very tasty rosé! Apparently, that is possible too! The Porello Nebbiolo Rosato has certainly surpassed the experimental level and is a fantastic rosé. Aromatic with roses (typical Nebbiolo), peach, and pomegranate on the nose. Crisp and dry with juicy fruit and subtle, spicy notes. Truly something new on the table, surprising! It is indeed a rosé that you would readily pair with food, and it handles it perfectly! Grilled Tuna with an anti-boise sauce but also with a typical Taleggio cheese.
It all began in the 1930s. Grandfather Cesare Porello transformed his small estate into a real business dedicated to the production of wine, but also of peaches, a fruit for which the town of Canale was already known. His legacy passed to his sons Riccardo and Ettore, who, visionary and against the grain, dedicated themselves to cultivating grapes, expanding the vineyards, and concentrating the vines in the most dedicated areas. In 1994, Marco Porello, Riccardo's son, returned to the company after a few short but intensive wine internships as an oenologist in Italy and France that gave the business a real shake-up. The Porello Nebbiolo Rosato was the direct result of this. Attention to detail while working in the vineyard and maximum care for every detail; this is the "leitmotif" of this business, which strikes a balance between tradition and innovation.
The company produces three white wines, all local and all vinified in steel, led by Camestri, from the vineyard of the same name in the municipality of Vezza d’Alba, which faces east on steeply sloping sandy soil. Barbera is planted in the Mommiano vineyard in the municipality of Canale, and on a small plot with Filatura vines that are nearly 50 years old. Nebbiolo is grown in the vineyards of both Vezza and Canale, from which the grapes for the most representative red wine are obtained in the Toretto vineyard, with its vines ranging from 30 to 50 years old. It is a young company where tradition keeps pace with the times, thanks to the care the Porello family devotes to its vines every day.
