Traminer is a collective name for various grape varieties from one large family. Traminer produces very recognizable, lush, and highly aromatic wines with exotic scents of lychee, roses, and spices. The ‘ordinary’ Traminers are equally lush but often slightly less spicy and actually a bit tighter than the best-known variant: Gewürztraminer, which is primarily planted in the French Alsace. Consequently, the wine made from this grape there is often slightly sweet. The Monviert Martagona Traminer Aromatico has a truly Italian character. A perfectly dry wine with an intense flavor and plenty of freshness. This grape thrives in the somewhat cooler Northern Italian climate of the Friuli region! A wine you must taste!
When it comes to Traminer, it’s a case of ‘you love it or you hate it’. There are Traminer fan clubs, enthusiasts you could wake up in the middle of the night for a glass. But other wine drinkers simply can’t stand these aromatic white wines. Well, here we absolutely love them!
The Monviert Martagona Traminer Aromatico is a full-bodied and refined white wine with beautiful complexity. Dry, intense, and a touch mineral. The color is straw yellow. On the nose, alongside fruit, you detect something aromatic: rose water, lime leaves, exotic fruit, and wormwood. A stunning aromatic combination. On the palate, this wine is intense, fresh, and pleasantly dry. This wine has plenty of flavor and pairs well with spicy dishes. Our personal favorite dish with this wine is pasta with spicy prawns. It also goes perfectly with Indonesian, Thai, or Vietnamese cuisine.
Monviert produces wines in Cividale del Friuli, with Schioppettino, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Picolit, Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, and many others among its best wines. They are located in Spessa di Cividale del Friuli in the province of Udine, close to the Italian border with Slovenia, precisely on the Colli Orientali del Friuli, where the Monviert company owns 18 hectares of vineyards situated between the Julian Alps, which guarantee the grapes ideal protection against cold winds and benefit from the sea breeze coming from the Adriatic Sea. The soils consist of various marl, but also include ponca, gravel, and clay. All of this creates a microclimate and an ideal habitat for the slow and gradual ripening of the grapes and the production of red and white wines of excellent quality.
Today, the Friulian company is a growing wine business in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, and while family management has remained unchanged since the Second World War, having been passed down through three generations, it officially changed its name from Ronchi San Giuseppe to Monviert in 2019. It was felt that there were too many Ronchis in the area, which often caused a lot of confusion. So, well-known wines, but with a new name.
