Sensual, chocolate, intense and warm, soothing and soft.

After the Second World War, in the 1950s, farmers in Southern Italy were in dire financial straits. Grandfather Angelo Paradiso, one of the many farmers in Puglia, decided to turn his fortune to viticulture and built the Cantine Paradiso winery in 1954. Today, Cantine Paradiso is a winery particularly known for its generous, jammy red wines made from Primitivo, Negroamaro, and Nero di Troia. This Paradiso Posta Piana Primitivo is their entry-level model with a whole lot of free options. A bargain! Beautiful ruby red, it sparkles at you. The nose is very intense with rich, ripe black fruit. Amarena cherry dominates. Spicy stuff with vanilla and clove, thyme, some toasted notes. Unctuously soft mouthfeel like the perfect French kiss! Balance with light tannins present in a well-structured wine.

Delicious with aged cheeses, but also with salami, for example with Capocollo di Martina Franca.

The Paradiso Posta Piana Primitivo comes from various vineyards around Cerignola in Puglia. The soil consists of clay and limestone. After the harvest, the grapes are destemmed and fermented. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 25 to 28 degrees for 10 days. Subsequently, part of the wine ages for a year in 225-liter barrels and the rest in stainless steel tanks.

Cantine Paradiso: in an area with a turbulent history.

From legend to the present, it is worth remembering that in the 19th century, the village of Cerignola was the absolute protagonist of the wine market, exporting bottles of Nero di Troia to the French market. It was the era of the great landowners, those who traveled by train to visit their immense properties: the Pavoncelli, the La Rochefoucauld—a French family that owned about a quarter of all the land—and the Zezza barons. Old-fashioned large-scale land ownership was the order of the day here. The mistreatment of agricultural workers in southern Italy is beautifully portrayed in the classic film “Novecento” by Bernardo Bertolucci, where the ill-treatment of the peasant population ultimately led to the rise of Fascism.

The Paradiso Posta Piana Primitivo won the Gold Medal at the 2018 Berliner Weintrophy.
