A cellar wine from Baron Rothschild… This time not a Bordeaux, but from South Africa!

The Rupert & Rothschild Baron Edmond is an absolute quality wine. Easily ages for more than 10 years. A wine comparable to the Grand Vins from Bordeaux. Made from the classic blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Power and strength combined with complexity and finesse. The Rupert & Rothschild Baron Edmond has an intense nose of blackberries, cassis, and fennel, with layers of damp forest and cedarwood, harmoniously integrated into a focused, delicately textured mouthfeel. Layers of complexity unfold on the palate with silky tannins. Exceptional balance, beautifully structured with hints of chocolate. Pairs perfectly with beef tenderloin with fennel crust, celeriac purée, potato fondant, beurre noisette, and a fig and red wine jus. Absolute class and a Christmas wine par excellence.

    Rupert & Rothschild Entrepreneurs

The wine history of the Rothschild family has its roots in France, where James de Rothschild acquired the prominent Bordeaux estate in 1868. Château Lafite bought. He fell in love with the vine that would be continued more than 100 years later by his great-grandson, Baron Edmond de Rothschild. This wine is also named after him.

Motivated primarily by a dream to shape some of the finest wines around the world, Baron Edmond de Rothschild founded several wineries in Europe, and then later in numerous corners of the world – a treasured collection that together form Edmond de Rothschild Heritage.

Driven by determination and unwavering optimism, the late Dr. Anton Rupert always had entrepreneurship in his blood. Aside from a flair for building businesses from scratch, he and his wife, Huberte, had reverence for art, for people, for the natural world, and for the promise of South African wine.

He and his family have put much energy and many years into cultivating Franschhoek estates that bottle excellence, pleasure, and prestige for the world.

    Continuing together since 1997.

In May 1997, the founders formalized their partnership. At the time, they found the perfect spot: a quiet farmhouse in Franschhoek at the foot of the Simonsberg. And they committed themselves to a simple and elegant approach. A distinctly French approach. To create three carefully crafted wines – two Bordeaux blends and one Chardonnay – that would express the full potential of the local vines. Ultimately, these have become iconic wines that set their own standards – rare, special, unique wines. Wines that taste of progress and prosperity, family and friendship. Wines made not for profit or pride, but simultaneously out of love for the craft and the pleasure of the finished product. Ultimately, summarizing it all, the Rupert & Rothschild Red Classique demonstrates and lets you taste this like no other!

Baron Edmond, however, did not get to taste the first harvest, as he passed away in the same year. Sadly, his son took over. It became even sadder when the latter also passed away four years later. Now the Rothschild concern is led by his wife, Ariane.
