A new jewel in the crown of beautiful Sardinia

Vermentino is a light white grape that grows primarily in Italy on the island of Sardinia. You can also find very fine examples in Liguria and Tuscany, but the Vermentino from Sardinia is definitely the thing! The exciting thing about Sardinia Vermentino di Sardegna is that it can be deliciously complex in flavor, in the same style as, say, a Sauvignon Blanc. And Vermentino is still quite unknown, so you can find high-quality wines at a great price.

The Sardinia Vermentino di Sardegna offers vibrant aromas of pear, white peach, lime, and pink grapefruit with subtle notes of gravel and citrus peel. On the palate, this Vermentino is almost always dry and somewhat oily with aromas of grapefruit and citrus, featuring a crushed, rocky minerality and a distinct salinity. The finish can be slightly spicy with a bitterness comparable to the taste of grapefruit peel or, if on the riper side, fresh almond. This Italian wine impresses with its elegantly dry taste. Bottled with exceptionally low residual sugar. As one might expect from a wine in the higher price range, this Italian wine enchants with its fine balance despite its dryness. Excellent taste does not necessarily require sugar. On the tongue, this light-footed white wine is characterized by an incredibly crisp texture. This Italian wine is highly recommended. This Italian white wine is best enjoyed well chilled at 8–10°C. It is perfect as an accompaniment to Thai-style trout “en papillote” but actually we like it best with Pasta Vongole! Così semplice !

Sardinia is “hot” among wine lovers

The mere appearance of this bottle transports us in our minds to authentic Sardinia. A beautiful island situated in the Mediterranean Sea. After Sicily, the largest of its kind. Sardinia's winemaking is centuries old, partly due to the domination of many different peoples. However, the island has experienced a real revival in recent years. More and more wineries are investing in the vineyards (take a look at our Surrau as well). And more and more wine drinkers are also falling for Sardinian wines. In the vineyards of Saragat in Sardinia, the Vermentino grape has found a huge home.

The Saragat Vermentino di Sardegna originates on the hills and plains near the village of Mogoro, in the Alta Marmilla sub-region in southern Sardinia. The soils are granite-like with a high proportion of limestone, producing highly aromatic wines. The Atzei winery follows a strict selection process in the vineyards during the harvest, ensuring that only the very best Vermentino grapes are picked, resulting in wines with an excellent concentration of flavors. Thanks to Sardinia's unique climate, this grape thrives here. Because Sardinia is an island, the sea is always close by. This sea provides a refreshing breeze in the evenings, especially during the hot summers, tempering the daytime heat. The result is a balanced grape with sufficient acidity but also ample fruit. Hats off. It is truly time to discover this example from the Saragat winery.
