An older Lugana aged in wood, you don't see that often….

The grapes for this Selva Capuzza Lugana Menasasso are picked from the Turbania grapes with a slight sur maturité. A little overripe, therefore. And yet the wine remains wonderfully calm and composed. With its fine acidity, this is a wine also made to age well in the cellar. We offer you this Selva Capuzza Lugana Menasasso  from 2013, already with a few years in the cellar and 18 months of barrel aging. Completely ready to be enjoyed with a meal.

The Selva Capuzza Lugana Menasasso has a light yellow color. We are immediately struck by the complexity on the nose, with a wide variety of aromas: fennel, melon, honey, roasted almond, dried fruit, and toffee. A portion of the must is wood-fermented, which merely supports the complexity, so do not expect an overly buttery effect here. It is all very refined. On the palate, the wine has great concentration, emphasized by a rich opening—not super dry and with invigorating acidity. It maintains remarkable purity and focus. In the long finish, aromas of anise and ripe tropical fruit return in particular. This is a complex, concentrated wine to accompany a meal, yet it is surprising how easy it is to drink. It is good and tasty! Remarkably, the wine is not only delicious with lasagna with pesto, but also works excellently with an Indian tikka masala.

    Selva Capuzza

The Selva Capuzza estate is located a few kilometers south of Lake Garda and is owned by the Formentini family. The estate offers space for many activities. A restaurant in the old 13th century country house, apartments in another country house and a converted old barn. Of course there is the winery and the vineyards. Biodiversity has been strongly promoted on the estate and they work in a way that, although not fully organically certified, goes much further in the Formentini's belief. They believe that every producer should find their own ecological balance, depending on the geographical location.

In the case of Selva Capuzza, for example, this means that they have been using no herbicides or pesticides since 2010. All electricity is generated naturally via PV panels. And, notably, that the wine is bottled in bottles that are lighter than usual. Many Southern Italian producers could take a leaf out of the book of this last point, with their bottles weighing nearly 1 kg! That might feel nice, but it really adds nothing…
