    Serge Dagueneau Pouilly Fumé Tradition

A fine glass of Sauvignon Blanc is always a delight, but especially when the Sauvignon Blanc comes from Pouilly Fumé! Hailing from the Loire region in western France, Pouilly Fumé is one of the most famous wines from France and ranks high on the list of many wine lovers. Named after the village of the same name, Pouilly Fumé is known for its fresh and slightly smoky aroma and taste. The soil surrounding this village contains a particularly high amount of limestone and flint, which imparts the Fumé notes ('smoked' in French) to the wine. The white limestone soil is full of fossils and minerals, and you can taste this in this Serge Dagueneau Pouilly Fumé Tradition as well!

This Tradition cuvée of 100% Sauvignon Blanc is the heart of production at Domaine Serge Dagueneau et Filles. It is a harmonious blend of grapes from the Blanc-Fumé plots. Traditional vinification brings out the fruity and exotic nuances of grapefruit and other citrus fruits, as well as the mineral richness of the “Terres Blanches” soil. It pairs perfectly with seafood, shellfish, grilled meats, and cheese.

The vineyards and vinification of Domaine Serge Dagueneau et Filles

The vineyards of Domaine Dagueneau are located on the hills of Pouilly-Sur-Loire, St. Andelain and St.-Lay. The domain is largely located on kimmeridgian marl soils, also called 'Terres Blanches'. The average age of the Sauvignon vines used for the Serge Dagueneau Pouilly Fumé Tradition is 40 years. An excellent wine is primarily formed by the intrinsic quality of the grapes. That is why they care for and respect the soil by continuously nurturing each plant. All methods are aimed at preserving the ecological heritage: Certification for High Environmental Values (HEV), plowing, hilling and deterioration, non-chemical weeding, optimal use of biocontrol, etc.

After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the winemaker allows the Pouilly Fumé to mature further on its lees. This gives the wine its complexity: soft fruit, smoky aromas, gentle minerals on the tongue, and, moreover, an outstanding intensity of the finish.

Today, the fourth generation of the Dagueneau family is already at the helm of the family business. Over all these generations, a tremendous amount of knowledge has been gained that they benefit from with every bottle!
