Veuve Clicquot Brut Champagne: powerful, fresh and recognizable

Veuve Clicquot Brut Champagne, also known as Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label, is the classic brut champagne from this famous house in Reims. The style is instantly recognizable: fresh, fruity, and robust, with Pinot Noir as the backbone. As a result, this champagne has just a little more power and structure than many lighter brut champagnes.

The blend consists of approximately 50% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, and 20% Meunier. Pinot Noir provides power, body, and ripe fruit. Chardonnay ensures freshness and elegance. Meunier makes the champagne rounder and more accessible. Veuve Clicquot also uses reserve wines to maintain consistency in style year after year.

How does Veuve Clicquot Brut taste?

In the glass, Veuve Clicquot Brut has a clear golden-yellow color and fine bubbles. The aroma is lively and rich, with notes of pear, peach, apple, citrus, and white flowers. Aging on the lees also creates aromas of brioche, toast, pastry, and a light hint of dried fruit.

The taste is fresh, round, and structured. You taste ripe white fruit, citrus, soft toast notes, and a subtle creaminess. The mousse is lively but not sharp. Thanks to the Pinot Noir, the wine has sufficient body and length. The finish is dry, fresh, and slightly spicy.

What do you pair Veuve Clicquot Brut with?

Veuve Clicquot Brut is a versatile champagne for aperitifs, drinks, and dinner. Serve it with oysters, prawns, smoked salmon, sushi, scallops, or light fish dishes. It also comes into its own with chicken, creamy cheeses, blinis, festive appetizers, and mushroom dishes.

Serve the champagne well chilled, around 8 to 10 degrees. A tulip glass or a spacious champagne glass works better than a narrow flute. This gives the fruit, brioche notes, and fine mousse more room.
