Barolo 'Pio Cesare'; the pious emperor

This Barolo ‘Pio Cesare’ is often called the king of wines and the wine of kings. In this case, of course, it is the ‘Cesare’: the emperor. A Barolo as you would expect: deep cherry red in the glass with a broad, complex aroma. Powerful, spices, roses, earthy, truffle, and bay leaf. The taste is beautifully powerful, yet velvety and soft. A true ‘pious emperor’. Beautifully balanced with great finesse and fine tannins in the finish. Fantastic with, for example, venison steak or hare stew, a fine cheese board with aged cheeses, or naturally as a wine after a wonderful meal. In short, a wine you can enjoy all evening long!

    The vineyards and vinification

The Barolo is made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, as prescribed. These grapes grow on the most beautiful slopes of the region and are planted in the family's own vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra, Novello, and Monforte. This Barolo ‘Pio Cesare’ has been made for generations from grapes from the various regions. Thanks to this traditional formula, all the characteristics of the Barolo area are embraced in the wine.

The grapes are harvested and selected by hand and only harvested when they are fully ripe. This takes place from mid-October to early November, when the ‘nebbia’ covers the hills of Barolo. The Nebbiolo grape also owes its name to this autumn mist.

Vinification begins in stainless steel tanks with a maceration and skin contact of 25 to 30 days. Subsequently, the wine ages in large French oak ‘botti’ and partly in barriques for 30 months. This aging lends the wine greater complexity and underscores its beauty. The result: an exceptional, monumental Barolo.
