A delicious, fresh Pinot Noir for every day

We do not often find Pinot Noir in the south of France, as the average temperature is often too high for this “cool climate” grape. But fortunately, there are always places where it is a bit cooler and where it feels perfectly at ease. This is where the Paul Mas Estate Réserve Pinot Noir is produced.

At Paul Mas, they have found such a spot in Saint Hilaire where only this vineyard is good enough for the Paul Mas Estate Réserve Pinot Noir. Here, they produce a so-called “single vineyard”. Pinot Noir.  A cooler-than-average location where the grapes can ripen nice and slowly and quietly build up their exuberant aromas. The Paul Mas Réserve Pinot Noir has, as they call it, a wonderfully expansive, ripe, almost ‘jammy’ fruit. Elegant nose of cherries, strawberries, red currants, soft spice, and a hint of vanilla. Fine creamy structure and velvety finish, and smooth to the last drop. No harsh tannins. The grapes were harvested mechanically at night to prevent oxidation and preserve the fresh acidity. The wine also ages for 6 months in oak to impart that lovely light woody note and allow all the aromas to integrate properly.
The Paul Mas Réserve Pinot Noir is lovely to simply grab a nice glass of upon returning home from work. It also pairs beautifully with charcuterie, game birds such as pheasant and guinea fowl, and soft cheeses. Delicious with a piece of Hollandse Maaslander cheese.
Nowadays Domaine Paul Mas owns more than 800 hectares of vineyards. They also collaborate with various farmers, giving them an additional 1,312 hectares at their disposal. This allows them access to as many as 40 different grape varieties, both local and international, as well as an incredible range of different soils in the Languedoc.

    Paul Mas Estate

Paul Mas Estate is situated between Pézenas and Montpellier, 10 km from the Mediterranean Sea. These vineyards also supply the fruit for the Estate Paul Mas wine line. Consequently, the vines for the Paul Mas Réserve Pinot Noir are grown in an exceptional setting: an environment surrounded by olive trees, pine forests, oaks, and orchards. They enjoy sun exposure from the north, south, and west, and are cooled by the Mistral and Tramontane winds. The grapes' aromas are strongly influenced by the gravelly clay and limestone soils on the slopes of the Hérault valley and the calcareous soils on the hills near the Thau. The vines are cultivated using sustainable viticultural practices, with parts of the vineyards being organic or certified Terra Vitis.
