    Sa(ngiovese)+ Syr(ah) = Sasyr

Rocca delle Macìe Sasyr Sangiovese – Syrah is a red wine from Tuscany. The wine takes its name from a combination of the grapes from which it is made: sa(ngiovese) and syr(ah). A ruby-red wine with a rich aromatic and flavor profile. On the nose, fruity aromas of cherries, blackcurrants, and raspberries with vanilla. On the palate, Sasyr is pleasantly round and beautifully soft, fresh, and supple with a lingering finish. Beautifully ripe dark and red fruit and vanilla due to oak aging. This ‘Super Tuscan’ is smoother, softer, and less acidic than Chiantis made solely from Sangiovese. A very beautiful, accessible red wine with great refinement. Furthermore, the Rocca delle Macìe Sasyr pairs wonderfully with tomato-based sauces, such as Pasta Arrabiata, Puttanesca, or Bolognese.

Originating from the Maremma, the coastal region west of the Chianti area. After short maceration and fermentation in stainless steel, blending follows in the ratio of 60% Sangiovese and 40% Syrah. A portion of the Sangiovese grapes is aged for 6 months in small French oak barrels.

    About Rocca della Macìe

Rocca delle Macìe was founded by Italo Zingarelli, a colorful personality who had amassed his fortune as a boxer and producer of Spaghetti Westerns. With that fortune, he decided to make his dreams come true, and so in 1973 he bought a fourteenth-century farmhouse in the heart of the Chianti region. He settled there with his family and planted his first vineyards. Rocca delle Macìe grew into a distinctive company with vineyards not only around Castellina but also in the Maremma. In 1985, Italo’s youngest son, Sergio, took over the management and successfully expanded the estate. Consequently, his wines—naturally made from Sangiovese, but also from Syrah, Chardonnay, Vermentino, Pinot Grigio, and Trebbiano—regularly receive high press ratings.
