The grape in this wine is Negroamaro and in Italian it consists of two words: negro means 'dark color' and amaro means 'bitter'. And that is a particularly good description for this wine! In your glass you will see a very intense dark, almost black color. This immediately gives the impression that this is a strong glass of wine. The scent of this I Muri Negroamaro contains impressions of candied, almost cooked dark fruit with a clear hint of amarene cherry and blackcurrant. The mouthfeel is wonderfully creamy with relatively low acidity. However, the wine has few tannins and that makes it a smooth wine to drink. In the long aftertaste you will encounter a clear little earthy bitterness and that gives the wine just the kick it needs!
The I Muri Negroamaro comes from Puglia, a southern region in the heel of Italy. The Negroamaro grape is, just like the Primitivo, a very popular grape from Puglia. The winemaker of I Muri is Vigneti del Salento, part of Zolla. This is a young company that has become very successful in a short time. Partly due to the use of low yields in the vineyard, and the dry and hot climate in Puglia, this ensures a good concentration of wine in your glass.
This wine is delicious to combine with warm game stews such as roe or hare pepper. You can also serve this wine with a barbecue or with slightly sweeter soy marinades.
I Muri Negroamaro Vigneti del Salento Puglia is one of the favorite red wines at Wijnclub Amsterdam.
I Muri Negroamaro is popular because the wine combines strength and accessibility. The warm Southern Italian style with ripe fruit and soft tannins appeals to a wide audience. This makes it a wine that is often chosen for both dinner and drinks.
Negroamaro is a typical grape variety from the south of Italy, especially from the Puglia region. The name literally means “black and bitter”, which refers to the dark color of the grape and the character of the wine. In practice, Negroamaro mainly produces full, fruity red wines with aromas of ripe cherries, blackcurrants and a light spiciness.
