For years, Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore has been a highly sought-after wine among many wine lovers. And we certainly understand why. Tommasi has enjoyed an excellent reputation for winemaking for well over a century. The Tommasi winery in the Veneto was founded as early as 1902. The vineyards are situated in an exceptionally beautiful location with excellent sun exposure. The Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore has an intense ruby red color. On the nose, you detect rich aromas of black pepper and notes of raisins. Take a sip and you taste a full, balanced flavor, very intense, spicy with a hint of sweet cherries. The wine pairs excellently with white and red meat, game dishes, and young and aged cheeses. Serve the wine at a temperature between 16-18ºC.
Ripasso is also known as baby Amarone. This is because the leftover must from Amarone is used in the production of Ripasso. As is customary, the trio of grapes is used for Ripasso. Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella are used. A second fermentation occurs with the Amarone must, giving the wine the warm, soft, and full flavor of the Amarone must. This gives Tommasi's Ripasso an exceptionally full flavor, and at this price!
Incidentally, Tommasi produces the Ripasso only in exceptionally good years. After fermentation, the wine ages for 15 months in 65-hectoliter Slovenian oak barrels. This is how they maintain the reputation for which they have been famous for over a century!
