Aubert & Mathieu Hautes Pistes Syrah is a modern Southern French red wine with a strikingly fresh style. This wine comes from the Languedoc. Here, the Hautes Pistes ensure ‘haute qualité’. The vineyards are situated at high altitudes (resulting in a large temperature difference between day and night).
The winemaking method also contributes to the fresh, fruity style: carbonic maceration. This is a winemaking method in which whole, undamaged grapes ferment in a tank filled with carbon dioxide (CO₂). This results in:
Perfect for lovers of characterful yet accessible red wines.
In the glass, you immediately notice that this is not a heavy, astringent Syrah, but rather an elegant and easy-drinking variety. The wine combines ripe fruit such as blueberry, garrigue (the typical Southern French spiciness), and olive. A wine with a light, almost mountainous freshness.
On the nose, you find notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, and ripe cherry, complemented by pepper, violets, and a subtle spiciness. On the palate, Aubert & Mathieu Hautes Pistes Syrah is juicy and energetic, with soft tannins and a beautiful balance between fruit and freshness. The finish is smooth, lightly spicy, and invites another sip.
Aubert et Mathieu Hautes Pistes Syrah is versatile, both at the table and as a good glass on its own. The wine pairs excellently with grilled meats, barbecue dishes, spicy stews, and hard cheeses.
Aubert & Mathieu is known for its modern vision of winemaking in the Languedoc. They work with a strong focus on sustainability and terroir. For the Hautes Pistes Syrah, they select grapes from higher-altitude vineyards, ensuring extra freshness and finesse. Vinification is aimed at preserving pure fruit and drinkability, without heavy oak aging. The result is a contemporary Syrah with a surprisingly refined character.
