Berthenet Montagny 1st Cru Vieilles Vignes is a full-bodied, creamy Chardonnay from the best vineyards of Burgundy. An absolute gem that can be compared to a Puligny or Chassagne Montrachet. Citrus and lime on the nose, complemented by delicious oak notes and toast. A powerful yet round wine with elegant minerality and a balanced finish. A luxurious aperitif for lovers of oak-aged Chardonnay, but we recommend pairing it with food. Fish dishes, langoustines, or veal sweetbreads are the ideal companions for this wine.
A classic white Burgundy of 100% Chardonnay. Full, creamy with a fresh edge. The fresh, sour citrus notes come together with a hint of peach and a pleasant minerality. The maturation in oak barrels gives that fatty butter to the taste. Pure, powerful and round in taste. Although this wine can certainly be enjoyed with drinks, the Berthenet Montagny 1er Cru looks just a little better with a meal. Extremely suitable with fish dishes and crustaceans and shellfish, but also with veal sweetbreads or Epoisses!
The vineyards of this Chardonnay are located in Montagny in the south of Côte Chalonnaise in Burgundy. Premier Cru is the highest classification in Montagny and the grapes come from the best and oldest vines from these vineyards. Old vines produce fewer grapes, but put all their energy into the quality and complexity of the grapes. You can definitely taste that in this wine! The soil of the vineyards is full of lime, which gives the wine its characteristic minerality. After the manual harvest, the grapes fermented in stainless steel tanks. Some of it matures in stainless steel, while the other part matures in small oak barrels. This ensures the beautiful balance between creamy and fresh.
About 50 kilometers north of Macon, you will find Domaine Berthenet. An authentic family business spanning four generations. Whereas grapes were once taken to local cooperatives, the estate has been producing wine in its own vinification cellar since the beginning of this century. Berthenet wines are a prime example of fine Montagny wines.
