Made in the Corcos wilderness in Ribera del Duero. A difficult but privileged area for viticulture, at an altitude of over 900 meters in the heart of Ribera del Duero. Here, the challenge has been taken up to create honest wines from the land. With the Bodegas de Bardos Reserva, we are therefore talking about a robust glass. As Spanish as Spanish can be. It is a blend of Tinta del Pais, the local name for Tempranillo (90%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). The Bodegas de Bardos Reserva is a beautiful cherry red with purple tones and possesses great aromatic intensity and complexity with warm dark forest fruit, distinct balsamic notes, gingerbread spices, and chocolate. Matured for 16 months in refined French oak, and you can clearly taste that here. Powerful, structured tannins, and mature, yet persistently fresh and very long-lasting. Also try the Bardos Verdejo!
This wine is a delicious companion to roasted meat and mushrooms, preferably in a stew. You can also pair the wine beautifully with a game ragout. The absolute highlight is drinking it with a Beef Wellington.
The grapes used come from old, low-production vineyards, selected from the best plots of the Ribera del Duero, including a vineyard over 60 years old in Moradillo de Roa. Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a younger vineyard, planted 20 years ago in the Fuentemolinos region. Sandy loam soils with a rolled edge at the surface and clay layers in the depths.
The harvest takes place in the first week of October. The grapes are harvested in crates of no more than 15 kilos to prevent the bunches from breaking. As soon as they arrive at the winery, they are selected on a sorting table. Bardos Reserva is fermented and macerated for approximately one month in 15,000-liter tanks at a controlled temperature of 18ºC. Subsequently, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels. During this time, the barrels are pumped out weekly and checked individually. Bardos Reserva ages for 16 months in new French oak barrels in underground cellars at a constant and controlled temperature of approximately 14°C.
The Páramo de Corcos region is the most surprising yet simultaneously unknown region of Ribera. Ten thousand hectares of flat landscape, where only the bravest manage to cultivate the land year-round in extreme conditions. A place where the cold shrinks bones, the wind cuts through the flesh, and the sun burns the skin. The Páramo reflects the sweat, the fear, and the strength of the people who work a land where the most sought-after grape of the entire denomination is found.
