Braida Barbera d’Asti Curej is the newest wine from the Braida family. And what a wine it is. Their first vintage is 2019. Delicious to drink on its own, with a simple Pasta Arrabiata or, of course, with antipasti and tasty Italian Charcuteria. Just think of a fresh and uncomplicated Barbera that you can easily enjoy. A Barbera born young and fresh, aged for 4 months in a large barrel, yet still retaining many primary aromas. So, lots of fruit! A beautiful cherry-red color with aromas of blackberries, strawberries, and red cherries. Fruity and floral, blueberries, raspberries, fresh cherries, wisteria, blond tobacco, and licorice. A surprising harmony of various scents. The taste is full and dry, juicy and fresh, well-balanced between the spicy, fruity, and floral notes. This silky smooth, yet also spirited, Barbera offers great directness and appeal.
Curej is the name of the new vineyard next to the beautiful agriturismo that Braida recently opened. Curej is the new Barbera d’Asti DOCG from Braida: it has its origins in the name, and in the aromas and on the sip, it recalls the panorama enjoyed from the Wine Resort: open, vast, simple, happy.
The Braida properties are situated between the districts of Monferrato, Astigiano, and Langhe in Piedmont. At the heart of the operation are the vineyards of Rocchetta Tanaro. Braida means the “forest of thoughts,” and the vines are lined up and ready to give life. Biodiversity and production rigor, genius, imagination, and respect for tradition are at the top of the list for Giacomo Bologna’s firm.
The story of Braida is connected to that of Rocchetta Tanaro, a small town in the Monferrato region. “My village is no surprise, it is ten vineyards, six houses, one church”: these are the words of chansonnier Paolo Frola, who is also the local doctor in Rocchetta. The song was written with Gianni Mura, who drank the Barbera from Rocchetta. Some of the ten vineyards in Frola’s song belong to Braida. They were owned by grandfather Giuseppe, who bequeathed them to his son Giacomo, and are now cultivated by Giuseppe and Raffaella Bologna. The estate is the product of the enthusiasm, passion, and enterprising courage of a bona fide Rocchettese, Giacomo Bologna.
Finally: Braida is Barbera. It is simply that simple. With the Bricco d’Uccelone, Braida put the Barbera grape on the world wine map! Every year, this producer also receives many awards.
