Villa Bucci Verdicchio Classico is a white wine with “red” characteristics and should be treated just like a red wine, especially regarding serving temperature—perhaps just slightly chilled at 14-16 degrees. This is also not a Verdicchio to be drunk young; rather, one you should allow some time. You might want to open the bottle at least half an hour beforehand. The wine needs to breathe and open up. In fact, the wine changes and opens up. Verdicchio which has matured together in barrel and bottle for at least 2 years. Aromas that transition from primary (grapes and flowers) to secondary and tertiary: spices, aromatic herbs, nutty impressions, minerals, etc. Light yellow to truly yellow when a few years old. On the nose, pure and elegant with beautiful white fruit like apple but also some riper yellow fruit, along with clear floral notes and a light minerality. On the palate, a soft start, a stronger emerging minerality and a slight bitterness, with mild acidity. The concentration effortlessly supports the alcohol content.
No thin Verdicchio here, but one that you should eat with. Especially with roasted fish on the barbecue, or also in salt crust. Also goes effortlessly with roast pork ribs.
The Villa Bucci it is located near Montecarotto in the Marche, one of the ‘Castelli di Jesi’. From this villa, the Ampelio Bucci family business, spanning no less than 440 hectares, is managed. In addition to grapes, Bucci also cultivates a large quantity of olives, grain, and sunflowers, for example, all organically. However, Ampelio Bucci has entirely different concerns and interests: he is a business consultant in the fashion and food industries, among others, and also a professor at the University of Milan in the field of ‘entrepreneurship’.
However, Ampelio is above all a passionate winemaker, working from the philosophy that the grapes determine the quality of the wine and that intervention in the cellar should be kept to a minimum. Consequently, his wines border on "natural" wines. That is why his wines are characterized by a high degree of purity. Each and every one is a wine with a very distinct signature.
His Bucci Verdicchio Classico has been named the best white wine of Italy by Gambero Rosso on several occasions.
