Caprili split off from the famous top producer Gaja half a century ago. Caprili's vineyards are situated in an equally prime location, resulting in exceptionally high wine quality. However, the name is much less well-known, which makes the price considerably more attractive! A traditional Brunello di Montalcino; accessible but not rustic. A classic, crystal-clear Tuscan with dried cherries, a hint of leather and spices, and a fresh yet saline minerality with a smoky edge. A wine with enormous aging potential!
An explosion of red fruit and exotic spices develops into a refined expression of dried cherries, wild strawberries, and powdery roses. On the palate, the wine is silky smooth and complex. Tart berries, briny minerals, sultry and soft tannins. When freshly opened, the wine has firm, hard tannins that slowly release as the wine breathes more. Therefore, we recommend decanting the wine for a while before serving.
Situated between the vineyards of Gaja’s Pieve Santa Restituta and Soldera, it is no surprise that Caprili produces fantastic wines! The vineyards are located at an altitude of approximately 225 to 350 meters, facing the south-southeast. The soil here contains slightly more sand than in other parts of Montalcino, making the wines incredibly elegant and crystal clear. Favorable wind currents enable the winemaker to cultivate organically. In the winery, too, a traditional method is employed with minimal intervention. The spontaneous fermentation of these Sangiovese takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by a long maceration of the skins. Subsequently, the wine ages in large wooden barrels for 3 years.
The Bartolommei family settled in the region in 1965. Montalcino where they started the Caprili estate. With a vineyard area of about 15 hectares, they produce around 60,000 bottles of wine annually. High quality is the estate's greatest driving force. To cultivate the best vines, they work closely with the University of Siena. The best results are applied immediately. The focus on high quality has made Caprili a firm favorite among many wine critics for years, who award the wines the highest scores!
