The Cascina Ghercina Chardonnay is an intense, yet also a light wine. We are dealing here with a wine made from 100% Chardonnay. You can clearly taste an Italian twist in this wine! That touch of bitterness at the end is just lovely. On the nose, you smell plenty of aromas of pears, apricots, and banana with a light spicy hint. A beautiful, fresh finish with juicy acidity and a subtle, typical Italian bitterness.
Delicious with creamy dishes such as a risi bisi or a pasta alla primavera. Also tasty with pasta with scampi.
Cascina Ghercina was founded in 1871, and the various generations have adhered to a clear mission: only their own grapes and quality above all else.
In 2002, the family purchased an additional 8 hectares of vineyards located on south-westerly slopes in the heart of the Langhe region for this wine. The vineyard is situated near Lake Ghercina, where a microclimate prevails in which Chardonnay thrives. The vines are planted on a soil of rock, marl, and limestone with a sandy subsoil.
Cascina Ghercina was founded by Paolo and Guido Sartirano to fulfill the dream of dedicating a selection of wines to the wine lover of Piedmontese wines.
With great balance, Cascina Ghercina manages to combine the tradition Paolo and Guido inherited from their fathers, grandparents, and great-grandparents with the technology modernity has to offer. All to pursue those goals of excellence, respect for the territory, and personal satisfaction.
Cascina Ghercina wines reflect the region to which they belong, Piedmont and in particular the Langhe. The headquarters are located in Novello, on the border with the municipality of Barolo, next to Lake “Ghercina” from which it takes its name and around which some of its own vineyards are situated.
The harvest is carried out entirely by hand, and the grapes undergo a strict selection procedure. They are then gently pressed and undergo vinification under controlled temperatures. This is followed by a six-month aging “Sur Lie.” This means that the wines remain on their lees for a somewhat longer period. Together with occasional stirring (batonnage), this ensures a greater complexity of the wine.
