    Buttery soft Bordeaux

The name Château La Croix Saint André is quite a mouthful, but the wine certainly is too! A wine of great finesse and beautifully polished. The aromas reveal abundant dark, generous fruit with underlying spiciness such as mint and cedar. Balanced on the palate with dark cherries, plums, and raspberries wrapped in soft, structured tannins. Very pleasant now with some decanting, but can be aged for ten years or so to soften the finish and reveal the earthy elements developed over time. Perfumed Cabernet Franc provides the structure, Cabernet Sauvignon its aromas, and the Merlot the creaminess and richness. A gem for the table, and certainly not just at Christmas. Excellent value for money.

Top winemaker Derenoncourt has a major hand in this.

Château La Croix Saint André is located in Néac in a terroir comparable to that of the Pomerol Plateau. The highly diverse soil, the age of the vines, and above all the way the estate is managed, make this wine château one of the most prominent wineries in the region.

The Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation comprises one thousand hectares spread across the villages of Lalande-de-Pomerol and Néac. It lies just north of Pomerol, separated by the Barbanne stream. Château La Croix Saint André is planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The Carayon family has carefully managed these 15 hectares since 1965, a portion of which is over 100 years old and is considered the oldest in this appellation.

The entire vineyard has been studied, scrutinized, and assessed. Each of the 33 plots is cultivated and mowed as needed. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and independently fermented and aged. The vinification process is overseen by winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt. Stéphane brings to Château La Croix Saint André the expertise he has developed within the Classified Growths of Bordeaux vineyards, his respect for the grapes, and the knowledge of how to carefully extract all flavors with rigorous micro-oxygenation. Many personalities from the world of art and politics are fans of this wine, including the pianist Arthur Rubinstein (1887–1992), to whom the 1982 vintage was dedicated.
