    Soft, Silky, Smooth and Sicilian

Crudo Red Organic is an organic Southern Italian wine from Sicily. Crudo may mean ‘raw’, but naturally also as pure as possible. And that is exactly what it is here. 100% organically produced. A delicious “clean wine”. The color of the Crudo Red Organic is dark red. On the nose, lots of fruit. Dark berries such as blackcurrant, cherries, and plums, but also a hint of licorice and oak to give the wine a nice roundness. The taste has just enough firmness with soft acidity and an integrated oak character. It pairs very well with red and white meat, but also, for example, with octopus in red wine sauce and various pasta dishes. We have noticed at home that the Crudo Red Organic also goes very well with risotto with bacon and radicchio.

The Nero d’Avola and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are fermented separately in stainless steel tanks, where the must is pumped over daily and well aerated. After malolactic fermentation, half of the Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in oak to achieve the desired level of oak structure, and this is blended with the remaining Cabernet Sauvignon. This ensures the beautiful roundness in the wine.

This organic red wine comes from warm Sicily. The abundant sunshine and strong winds from the sea ensure that the grapes develop a beautiful fullness. This results in a rich, full-bodied wine with plenty of fruit.

    Sicily

Viticulture was introduced to Sicily approximately 4,000 years ago. Besides wine, olive oil and grain have always been the most important agricultural products there. In the 19th century, wine production increased considerably, with wines from the Marsala region and blended wines from other provinces, for which there was a high demand, particularly in Northern Italy. Around 1880, however, viticulture was almost completely destroyed by the phylloxera (grape louse). Through crossbreeding with an American grape variety, a variant emerged that is resistant to grape louse, and viticulture began to flourish again at the beginning of the 20th century.

Until the 1960s, Sicily was primarily known for the fortified wines from Marsala, but in the 1970s, more and more good white wines emerged from the island. In the 1980s, a strong development of red wines emerged, which were aged first in wooden barrels and then in the bottle. Around the year 2000, the red wine made from the regional grape variety Nero d’Avola became very popular. The Crudo Red Organic is a fine example of this.

Over the last 10 years, an increasing number of Sicilian wine producers have emerged, focusing on the production of high-quality Sicilian wines. There are now 22 DOCs (Denominazione di Origine Controllata, an official designation guaranteeing a certain quality) and 1 DOCG, the Cerasuolo di Vittoria.
