    Does a “Spanish Amarone” exist?

No, technically that is of course impossible, but the Descalzos Viejos Tinto DV+, the ‘Flagship’ wine from this house, bears a strong resemblance. A wonderfully full-bodied wine made from 60% Graciano, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is very powerful, due to the hot, dry summer, yet possesses sufficient acidity to develop optimally. Lots of fruit, violets, ink, and graphite; it has hints of balsamic and spice, but above all, plenty of ripe black fruit. Fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged for 12 months in barrels (90% French oak and 10% American). The powerful tannins are still present; clearly an international style here, partly due to the use of French grape varieties—a wine to savor. The Descalzos Viejos Tinto DV+ still has aging potential even after 10 years. This definitely needs to be paired with food! Grilled meats such as pork chops. the pata negra piglet  , stews, game, and great with Moroccan tagine!

Pay a visit to the Descalzos Viejos winery during your vacation.

If you are going to Malaga and Ronda and love wine, then the Descalzos Viejos winery is a must-visit! The building, and the wines! The old monastery with beautiful gardens is situated against the old city wall on the edge of the famous gorge of Ronda, housing the Salesi and Retamero family bodega in the preserved frescoed chapel. Winemaker Vicente Inat produces top wines year after year from the grape varieties we know from France, but which, in the (old sea) soil and with the temperatures and microclimate of Ronda, yield flavorful, ripe wines; even the Petit Verdot, which often cannot ripen fully in France, ripens abundantly here.

Ronda wine would be nothing without its Bodegueros – the winemakers. Their commitment and desire to create unique ecological wines has made Ronda one of Spain's newest and most sought-after wine regions. With their unusual blend of grapes and their understanding of biodiversity, their artisanal approach has created fresh and unusual wines never before tasted in Spain. To understand the true beauty of the wines, you must first meet the people behind them. They are happy to talk to you about their passion. And of course, please pour some tasting glasses.
