Start a festive dinner, a birthday celebration, or simply a get-together with friends with a glass of Crémant d’Alsace from Gustave Lorentz. This dry, organic, sparkling white wine is delightfully refreshing and enjoyable, helping people really loosen up! Highly recommended! Made using the Champagne method (Methode Traditionel). The wine features aromas of ripe citrus fruit, is creamy, and has a fresh acidity. It is excellent as a festive aperitif. The Crémant is a very tasty accompaniment to convivial, refined small bites such as prawns in aspic, but also to a cow's milk cheese like Chaource.
Many people are familiar with Champagne; a sparkling wine that is actually served primarily on special occasions. Champagne is made using a double fermentation: first fermentation of the press juice in stainless steel tanks, followed by a second fermentation in the bottle sur Lie (on its own yeast). Exactly the same method is used for Crémant wines, making these wines sparkling, refreshing, and pleasant to drink. This also gives the wine that typical brioche and pastry character. Moreover, the price tag of the Gustave Lorentz Crémant d’Alsace is considerably more palatable.
Georges Lorentz has been in charge since 1995, and the eighth generation – his three daughters – is preparing to join the business as well. Gustave Lorentz owns a total of 33 hectares of vineyards on the hillsides around Bergheim, a substantial number by regional standards. Of the 33 hectares, 12.8 are classified as Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim and 1.75 as Grand Cru Kanzlerberg.
Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Silvaner, Muscat, and Gewürztraminer are the classic Alsace grapes grown here. Since taking over, Georges has implemented a significant number of modern insights. For instance, in addition to quality, the focus lies on balance, purity, personality, and drinkability. Sustainability is also of crucial importance to Georges. Since 2012, all of his own vineyards have been organically certified by EcoCert.
