The La Nerthe Les Cassagnes Blanc from the château of the same name is immediately open and attractive on the nose. Aromas of white pepper, bay leaves, sweet, almost tropical fruit, and delicious spiciness. You immediately experience the wild landscape of the Southern Rhône region. The nose seduces with honeysuckle and ripe citrus notes, with a layer of peach and a hint of cooked lemon. The citrus note continues on the palate. A beautiful roundness in the wine, complemented by a subtle richness. La Nerthe Les Cassagnes Blanc is a blend of organically grown Viognier, Grenache Blanc, and Roussanne. This organically produced wine pairs perfectly with appetizers, grilled prawns 'à la plancha', asparagus risotto, or even with a fresh cow's blue cheese such as Brillat-Savarin.
Château la Nerthe is a magnificent, 500-year-old estate that has become a ‘one to watch’ in recent years. The portfolio of 57 plots is situated on various soil types and exposures. Organic since 1998, it produces a seamless and full expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape – characterized by beautiful complexity. The noticeable care devoted to both the vineyard and the cellar has resulted in seriously impressive wines in recent years. In every respect, this estate is a worthy rival to Château de Beaucastel, for example.
Winemaker Rémi Jean is just as inspiring as the terroir itself – his understanding of the multiple plots on this complex property and meticulous attention to detail is impressive. In 2020, he notes that, despite the ‘easier’ vintage, the La Nerthe viticulture team was particularly vigilant and carefully inspected plot by plot to anticipate specific interventions. Thanks to the remarkable terroir of Château la Nerthe, this estate is able to produce beautiful wines year after year. The mix of rocky, clay, and sandy soils, along with the natural springs on the estate, lends the wines a delightful freshness and minerality.
