Warm-blooded Rhône blend from top winery Château La Nerthe

Super beautiful red wine from the Côte du Rhône, made by a top producer from Chateauneuf du Pape.

This La Nerthe Les Cassagnes Rouge – organic comes from vineyards in Serignan-du-Comtat, north of Orange and Avignon, and the Massif d’Uchaux. These vineyards are managed by the team at Chateau la Nerthe with the same passion and experience for which the esteemed Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate is recognized. The 40+ year old vineyards contain all the traditional grape varieties of the southern Rhône Valley: Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre.

Power, structure, and color are the signatures of this La Nerthe Les Cassagnes Rouge. The appearance is a very deep purple with purple hints. Very expressive with notes of small red and black berries along with floral and spicy notes. On the palate, it is very round, dominated by the spicy notes of the Syrah. The fruit aromas in the nose clearly reappear in the taste. Thanks to the tannins, it displays excellent structure and has very good length in the finish. Moreover, it is well-balanced with considerable aging potential. It can certainly be kept for at least 5 years. Delicious with roasted lamb with Provençal herbs and a beautiful red wine jus. Also delicious with a hearty Cassoulet.

    Château La Nerthe

Château La Nerthe is one of the oldest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The estate was first purchased by the Tulle de Villefranche family in 1560. The historic château was built in 1736. Château La Nerthe deserves the honor of being one of the first estates to bottle its own wine. This took place to some extent starting in 1784. Château La Nerthe is one of the first, if not the first, estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape to export its wine outside France. Another first belonging to the estate is that Château La Nerthe began destemming 100% of its vines in the 1800s. At that time, to illustrate, Château La Nerthe was even the most expensive wine from the southern Rhône.

In 1985, Château La Nerthe had unfortunately fallen into disrepair and was subsequently offered for sale by the Dereumaux family and purchased by the Richard family in collaboration with David and Foillard negociants. Their goal for the estate was to revive the original values of excellence and innovation. A complete renovation of the estate took place, and many of the vineyards were replanted. In 1991, Château La Nerthe was able to expand its business with the purchase of 54 hectares of vines, which helped create one of the largest estates in the southern Rhône with 230 hectares. Finally, in 1998, the vineyard was certified organic.
