The Nervi-Conterno Gattinara Vigna Molsino DOCG is an outstanding example of the Nebbiolo grape! Refined, pure, and classic with aromas of dried cherries, spices, and an earthy touch. Structured and complex with a long finish. Sourced from one of the best areas of the DOCG Gattinara in the northern Italian Piedmont: Molsino. The first official collaboration between the oldest and, according to many, the best winery of the DOCG Gattinara, Nervi, and the famous Barolo winery Giacomo Conterno. With an excellent result, we can safely say! Awarded by Vinous with 98+ points, 96 points from Robert Parker and 95 points from Decanter!
In the glass, this Nebbiolo is light garnet red with aromas of dried cherries, raspberries, and spicy bay leaf. Earthy notes of leather, tobacco, and mushrooms with a smoky edge provide depth and character. Balsamic notes and a hint of mint give the wine its delicious freshness. The structured tannins make the wine a true powerhouse with a complex and long finish. Incredible aging potential until at least 2043! You don't have to wait for that one special moment; this wine makes every moment special. A beautiful wine to serve with roasted pheasant or dishes with mushrooms and truffles.
The vineyards of the Nebbiolo-grape lie in Molsino in the Piedmontese the Gattinara wine region is located at an altitude of 350-420 meters above sea level. The soil is of volcanic origin and is rich in minerals and clay. The harvest here is carried out entirely by hand to pick only the optimally ripe grapes. A strict selection and destemming follows before the grapes are gently crushed. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless steel tanks for 3-4 weeks. Afterwards, the juice is transferred to oak barrels where it undergoes malolactic fermentation. Subsequently, the wine ages for a minimum of 4 years in large oak barrels.
Nervi, founded in 1906, is the oldest and, according to many, the best winery in the DOCG Gattinara in Alto Piemonte. In 2018, Roberto Conterno, of the renowned Barolo winery Giacomo Conterno, acquired 90% of Nervi, shifting all attention to Gattinara. This region, comparable to Barolo and Barbaresco, offers optimal conditions for top-quality Nebbiolo. The soil of volcanic gravel, clay, and minerals, combined with the cooler climate, results in a late harvest and a traditional approach that allows Gattinara's Nebbiolo to shine: delicate, elegant, and with refined acidity.
