Blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. A classic blend of various grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan! A wine made in the village of Durfort, located in the Cévennes region in the southwest of France. A completely sleepy village nestled between the surrounding towns of Anduze and Saint Hippolyte du Fortot. That is, until 1873, when a group of paleontologists discovered an imposing mammoth that was remarkably well preserved in its soil. The village was immediately turned upside down! Life came alive. More and more people came to live there, and a tourist destination actually emerged. In the meantime, a cooperative was established that produces delicious wines. Especially everyday wines! Tasty, easy-drinking wines that you can easily pour yourself another glass of. This is also the case with this Pélous Cévennes Rouge.
The Pélous Cevennes Rouge has a beautiful, light purplish ruby color. Crisp and deliciously crunchy fruit. Blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries. A classic blend of various grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, and Cinsault. CarignanThe wine is already inviting with its light purplish ruby red color. It is a gastronomic and very pleasant wine. Not tiring and it drinks wonderfully. Just ripe fruit in the glass. Truly a typical French classic! Highly recommended for a balmy summer evening at a BBQ with the neighbors. The price shouldn't be a deterrent.
In 1964, producers from nine municipalities in the area around Anduze and Saint Hippolyte du Fort founded a cooperative winery, La Cave de Coteaux Cévenois. At that time, the producers in this cooperative collectively owned 35,000 hectares of vineyards and primarily produced Vin de Pays from local varieties ‘en vrac’ (which you could also buy and collect with your jerrycan at a kind of pump). In the 1980s, more and more vineyards were replanted with international varieties, such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Cabernet, Merlot, and Syrah. The quality of the wines improved over the years, and in 1995, research began for the development of the AOC Duché d’Uzès.
In 2003, the ‘best sommelier of France’ Philippe Nusswitz involved in the wine production of the cooperative, which would later be named Cave de Durfort. They increasingly began working with varieties that suited the terroir well, such as Vermentino, Viognier, Cinsaut, Grenache, and Carignan. In 2005, the first white wine officially bearing the AOC Duché d’Uzès was released. Today, Philippe still collaborates with the cooperative, resulting in wines that are pure, expressive, and delightfully easy to drink. The Pélous Cevennes Rouge is a prime example of this. A microclimate influenced by the nearby mountains: significant thermal amplitudes between the heat of summer days and the coolness of the nights in the Cévennes.
