Classic wine, but the right producer makes the difference.

Every wine connoisseur always seeks out wine from an exceptional producer. That is when they know they are on the right track. This producer, Rocca di Castagnoli, is certainly one of those. One that, for instance, was very closely involved in the selection of the best Sangiovese clone for Chianti Classico. They make pure wines, with an emphasis on terroir. No frills, just the real stuff. The Rocca di Castagnoli Chianti Classico is one of them!

The Rocca di Castagnoli Chianti Classico is purple-red to red. On the nose, a beautiful, delicate cherry scent, some forest fruit combined with spiciness, violets, and a hint of almond. On the palate, a juicy wine bursting with fruit. The oak aging provides light support here, so do not expect cedar or tobacco aromas. However, it does have beautiful roundness and a full, long finish. Lovely acidity and ripe, lively tannins provide a good balance, even in the long finish. Very drinkable! Not tiring and certainly not rustic… well made! Delicious with Italian charcuterie, and a real showstopper with a good wine. Osso Buco. He also handles lingering at the table with a good piece of Parmesan just fine.

    Large quality company

The “Tenute Calì” wine group is the fruit of the family’s passion for agriculture, fine wine, and excellent products. It is the result of the ambition to continuously improve quality through experience gained from harvest to harvest. In 1981, fascinated by its beauty and history, they purchased one of the oldest and most noble Chianti Classico estates: Rocca di Castagnoli in Gaiole in Chianti. A farm that first belonged to the Tempi family, who expanded it in 1730, subsequently becoming Baron Ricasoli until the 1950s. With this first acquisition, they began to realize their corporate mission: to create unique wines recognizable by their typical characteristics and respect for the environment. They work with an impressive team of winemakers and grape growers to ensure the wines from all the estates are exactly as they are intended. The end result is never megalomaniacal or overly heavy, but rather digestibility and elegance are the order of the day here. And certainly at a reasonable price. The name Rocca di Castagnoli comes from the tower that marks the highest point of the hamlet of Castagnoli. Naturally, wine was already being made here in the Middle Ages. It is an enormous estate of 850 hectares, of which approximately 100 are planted with vines. The rest with olive trees and grain. The vineyards are situated between 380 and 500 meters above sea level. The company has been intensively involved in determining the best Sangiovese clone for the Rocca di Castagnoli Chianti Classico.

Rocca di Castagnoli Chianti Classico is known for combining very pure Sangiovese fruit with an emphasis on terroir and for its good aging potential. For this reason, the wines here are often released a year later than at most other estates. Rocca di Castagnoli Chianti Classico consists of 80% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo, and 10% Colorino grapes.
