The aforementioned are names for the same grape from France, Spain, and Italy, respectively. It is truly a Mediterranean grape that really needs heat and plenty of sun. However, it only reveals its quality when the vines are already many years old. The vineyards also still have their own rootstocks, which is a rarity. It is also a vineyard that has existed since the Roman Empire. The Santadi Rocca Rubia Riserva therefore comes from the best and oldest vineyards near the Sardinian coast. The soil there is ideal for the older vines of the Carignano grape that produces beautifully concentrated wines. After a year in wood and a year of bottle aging, the result is an elegant combination of spiciness and (forest) fruit.
It is a robust wine with the necessary spiciness. The Santadi Rocca Rubia Riserva has a deep ruby red color, almost opaque. Scented with intense, full-fruity notes of blackberries, blueberries, vanilla, myrtle, leather, and licorice. Truly a Mediterranean character with plenty of "garrigue" in the aroma and taste. On the palate, it is broad and velvety, with a great structure and aromatic persistence. It is a full-bodied wine and very present. Lots of delicious spices and roasted notes. Thanks to the microclimate, the wine possesses a perfect balance between extract, noble tannins, alcohol, and acidity almost every year. Very Italian character. The Santadi Rocca Rubia Riserva pairs well with red meat dishes, wild boar, roasted suckling pigand well-seasoned Sardinian pecorino cheese. BBQ and grilling serve as the bridge to the wine here.
It is located in the Sulcis area. This is in the southwest of Sardinia, just a few kilometers from the stunning beaches and white sand dunes of Porto Pino. Founded in 1960, the winery embarked on an ambitious program involving, among other things, the adoption of new strategies and clear goals, the streamlining of its operations, and the provision of coherent guidelines to affiliated grape growers. The primary objective was to focus on bottled quality wines. All of this was done to improve and promote the primary local cultivar: Carignano. Here, the Santadi Rocca Rubia Riserva can be cited as a prime example. Also not to be forgotten are the white grapes with a distinguished tradition in Sardinia, such as Vermentino, Nuragus, and Nasco.
The winemaking technique and wine selection were also perfected as a result of the advice of international wine expert Giacomo Tachis, whose arrival at the Winery was a major turning point.
Santadi Rocca Rubia Riserva is a robust wine with a deep ruby red color and intense aromas of blackberries, blueberries, vanilla, myrtle, leather, and licorice. With its broad, velvety taste and great structure, this wine is a true treat for the senses. Enjoy the Mediterranean character with its distinctive “garrigue” notes, perfectly suited for lovers of full-bodied and powerful wines.
The Santadi Rocca Rubia Riserva pairs excellently with red meat dishes, wild boar, roasted suckling pig, and well-seasoned Sardinian pecorino cheese. Whether you enjoy barbecuing or prefer using the oven, this wine always perfectly complements your favorite dishes.
