Imagine a wine that instantly kisses you awake: vibrant minerality, refined freshness, and juicy notes of ripe stone fruit. That is exactly what the Schloss Johannisberg Goldlack Riesling Trocken offers – a top wine of 100% Riesling, originating from the exclusive Langenberg plot in the iconic Rheingau.
This wine belongs to the absolute world elite:
On the nose, the Schloss Johannisberg Goldlack Riesling Trocken opens with rich layers of peach, apricot, and citrus, complemented by floral accents and a hint of honey. On the palate, it is crisp and dry, yet intense and lively due to the pronounced acidity. Juicy flavors of green apple and ripe stone fruit blend with subtle spiciness and minerality. The finish is long, complex, and silky smooth in balance.
Perfect with:
Under the leadership of winemaker Stefan Doktor, Schloss Johannisberg is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in Germany. Wine has been produced here for over 1,200 years, and exclusively Riesling since 1720. The 50 hectares of vineyards are ideally situated on south-facing slopes along the Rhine. With a unique subsoil of Taunus quartzite, loam, loess, and a touch of iron oxide – the perfect basis for Riesling with finesse and power.
The grapes for Goldlack are harvested by hand, followed by a 48-hour maceration. Fermentation takes place in 1,200-liter oak barrels made from their own chestnut, followed by 24 months of aging on the lees in the 9-meter-deep Bibliotheca Subterranea. The constant temperature of 10.5°C gives the wine its layered structure and pronounced minerality. This is followed by bottle aging until September for additional refinement.
After three extremely dry years, 2021 finally brought cooling and rain, resulting in healthy grapes and excellent yields. The relatively late budburst and the cool harvest period called for rapid, precise picking. Thanks to the team's efforts, this resulted in a harvest of unprecedented concentration and elegance—a vintage that worthily adds to the history of Schloss Johannisberg.
