Lugana wines come in many varieties and types. Simply thin and watery, but also more powerful and fruity. And also Lugana’s who want to let the local terroir shine through in the wine. The Selva Capuzza Lugana Selva is one of those. Don't expect a smooth, fruity boy here, but rather a wine that makes you think more. A wine that has something to tell you.
Let's taste it right away: The Selva Capuzza Lugana Selva is truly yellow in color. On the nose, it emerges calmly with ripe apple, apricot, and candied pineapple; no sugary fruity notes here, but rather a refined restraint. Also some scents of fennel and dill in the distance, and some yeast aromas caused by the wine having aged on its lees for an extended period. On the palate, the wine is exciting in its complexity and clearly pronounced while retaining elegance. The full body is supported by fresh acidity, which also brings out aromas like apricot and fennel again in the finish. A terroir-driven and complex wine that excels in elegance. Truly a gastronomic wine as well. The Selva Capuzza Lugana Selva pairs well with freshwater fish such as poached salmon in puff pastry. Also delicious with Truite aux amandes. Excellent with a zucchini cake.
An Italian guide wrote very aptly: ‘Their wines have an emotional approach, besides the technical and professional side’. The wine can age for several years and surprise itself more and more.
Produced by the vinification of Turbiana-grapes(Latest news: Verdicchio it turned out to be after DNA research) grown in one of the most exceptional vineyards in the entire DOC area.
The most important vineyard that gives the wine its name is characterized by three fundamental elements: its altitude between 110 and 125 meters above sea level, the hilly slope, and the rich presence of stone to make the clay more crumbly and permeable. The name “Selva Capuzza” finds in this reference (Capuzza: Cappuccio) the indication of its specific position.
The Selva Capuzza Lugana Selva is bottled at the beginning of the spring season and subsequently refined in the cellar for several months. It ages there to achieve the balance in which the wine softens its exuberance. A balance is then achieved between taste and freshness that makes this wine a unique expression of this territory. Before the summer, it is still nervous, linear, still past the bloom in what will be its true identity, which it will attain at the end of the heat, a year after the harvest. At the beginning of the autumn mists, its power will finally manifest itself in a more generous breadth of aromas that, although always delicate, will be balanced. Minerality and fruitiness are the keywords here.
