Gallura, a land of granite rocks and mistral winds on the northern side of the island of Sardinia, is home to some of the most beautiful Vermentino’s. Always super fresh and almost salty white wines. Limizzani is the name of a mystical place from the ancient Mediterranean civilizations. Made from grapes sourced from all the estate's vineyards, the Surrau Limizzani Vermentino di Gallura is a fresh and pure Vermentino that embodies the essence of Gallura. Fragrant and savory, this beautiful white hits all the right buttons. It opens with intoxicating aromas of elderflower, peach, and Mediterranean herbs, while the dry, refreshing palate brings out apricot and Moroccan salted lemon. The fresh acidity gives it a bright, clean finish. Also fantastic with shellfish. Naturally, it pairs classicly with a good and simple wine. pasta al vongole but also great with our Zeeland mussels.
Sardinia, situated in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, is Italy's second-largest island. It is primarily a mountainous region. The terroir is a unique blend of pristine wilderness, oak forests, and cork forests. In stark contrast to the rugged interior, the island boasts over 1,200 miles of jagged coastline, home to some of the most pristine beaches in the Mediterranean. One of these spectacular coastal areas is Costa Smeralda, located in the northeastern corner of the island. The area is part of one of Sardinia's largest and most important wine regions – Gallura. Gallura, the first and only Sardinian DOCG, means “stony area,” aptly describing the granite-based soils that form the terroir of one of Italy's most important wines: Vermentino di Gallura.
The Demuro family are native Sardinians and have practiced viticulture for generations. Growing up, Tino Demuro worked in the family vineyards with his 11 brothers and sisters, primarily to make wine for their own consumption. Twenty years later, while running his successful construction company, he began researching the symbiotic relationship between construction and nature. He believed that a wine estate could be a workplace capable of creating a product of the earth through visible processes that guarantee quality. In 2001, he decided to invest by purchasing vineyards in the municipality of Arzachena.
Vigne Surrau It derives its name from the Surrau Valley, situated between the municipalities of Arzachena and Palau in the heart of the Gallura appellation in northern Sardinia. Tucked away among the rugged hills with an impressive view of the Limbara granite massif, the winery lies a short fifteen-minute drive from the Costa Smeralda and the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The location offers a perfect growing area for the Surrau Limizzani Vermentino di Gallura.
