The Tenuta Giustini Vecchio Sogno Negroamaro is the origin of the winery. It is the beginning of the story. “Vecchio Sogno” literally means “old dream” in Italian. This refers to the dream of a family wanting to start a wine estate. Not just any family: the family of Giuseppe Papadopoli. For years, they cultivated grapes for other wineries. In 2005, the dream finally became a reality, and the Tenuta Giustini Family Business was established. The result is this 100% Negroamaro, in which, alongside the potential of Italian Puglia, you taste the love, passion, and experience of no less than four generations! Sultry, sun-ripened red fruit, velvety tannins, and exciting spicy notes. A very fine wine for a very fine price!
At the family business Tenuta Giustini, they have struck gold. Warm, sun-drenched days are cooled by a fresh sea breeze. Add to that incredibly fertile soil, and you have the perfect conditions to grow flavorful grapes! The Negroamaro has a thick skin and is therefore known for its deep dark red, almost black wines. The name also gives a hint about the wine: ‘negro’ means ‘black’ and ‘amaro’ translates to ‘bitter’. The thick skin of this grape releases an enormous amount of color and flavor during the winemaking process; the tannins. Due to the thick skin, this grape also requires a great many hours of sunshine to reach full ripeness. The southernmost point of Italy – Puglia – is the ideal place for this!
The grapes for the Vecchio Sogno grow on a soil of clay and sand and are harvested by hand in mid-September. The grapes are then destemmed and crushed, and ferment for 10-12 days in stainless steel tanks. The wine subsequently ages for several months in stainless steel vessels, ensuring the pure, full-bodied flavor remains intact and acquires a beautiful elegance. A glorious Negroamaro!
Thanks to its luscious fruit and soft tannins, the Negroamaro is an excellent choice with spicy dishes! This wine will also come into its own perfectly with a cheese board or charcuterie.
