Yenda Sel d’Aiz Albarino Godello. Albariño blended with the Godello grape. Two indigenous local grape varieties that produce a delicious wine in a blend; the freshness of Albariño with some body from the Godello. We also serve their delicious Spicata, in which even a touch of Riesling makes an appearance. While the signals were completely green for the Spicata, here with this Yenda Sel d’Aiz Albarino Godello, they jump to yellow-orange. Peach, some mandarin, some melon, ripe apples, and some shy citrus. Pair this wine with some gravad lax or with a goat cheese salad. Naturally, it is also fine to drink on its own on a beautiful warm day. With its soil types and annual climate, the Cantabria region seems perfectly suited to producing juicy, crisp, dry wines.
In Castillo Pedroso, in a small wine region in Cantabria, at an altitude of approximately 500 meters, in one of the most attractive areas of northern Spain and about 45 km from Santander, lies Bodegas Sel d Aiz, the passion project of Asier & Miriam, into which they pour all their free time and energy. The result is a very small-scale, high-quality production of various wines. They cultivate Riesling, Albariño, and Godello (aromatic grapes that have adapted to the cold, wind, and rains of the north) in their 5-hectare vineyard, situated in a beautiful green dreamscape, surrounded by the imposing nature of the authentic Cantabrian coast.
Bodega Sel d’Aiz works as organically as possible in this region, striving to keep the vineyard as healthy as possible with the help of grasses and weeds, attracting insects and birds that make the use of pesticides unnecessary. They produce the wines as much as possible without sulfites, but where necessary with truly minimal additions (actually so little that it must be stated on the bottle but is actually negligible) and without other additives that, while permitted, nevertheless conflict with their ideas regarding sustainability and pure-nature wines. This was certainly taken into account when making the Yenda Sel d’Aiz Albarino Godello!
