Burgundy? That's not on Sicily, is it?

No, of course not. But wines made from this grape are sometimes compared to those from Burgundy because of their aromas. They possess fruit, invigorating freshness, and a beautiful mineral character. Elegance and yet power. Nerello Mascalese is an Italian red grape found in Sicily, on the higher volcanic slopes of Mount Etna. It grows there in the form of small bushes. Thanks to enormous improvements in Sicilian viticulture, Nerello Mascalese has received the recognition it deserves as a variety with great quality potential. This Il Passo Nerello Mascalese is truly one for young wine drinkers with some experience who are looking for wines of good quality and a good price.

    And how delicious that is!

The Il Passo Nerello Mascalese is bright red in the glass, made by a local cooperative of farmers in Sicily: Vigneti Zabù. On the nose, alongside full fruit, the wine displays a beautiful spiciness with a hint of balsamic. The Il Passo is rich and round on the palate. Despite the tannins present, the wine is soft and easy to drink. The Il Passo is made from 85% Nerello Mascalese and 15% Nero d’Avola. The Nero d’Avola grapes are harvested in the second half of September. The Nerello Mascalese grapes, on the other hand, are left on the vine slightly longer to increase the relative amount of sugar in the must. After about 15-20 days, the Nerello grapes lose approximately 30% of their weight and are then harvested. The wine is aged for about 6 months in French and American oak.

    Vigneti Zabu

The vineyards of Vigneti Zabù are situated in a hilly landscape above Lake Arancio. The Vigneti Zabù winery is a cooperative of farmers in Sicily. The location on Lake Arancio is vital for the Vigneti Zabù vineyards. This allows the grapes to ripen optimally despite the warm Sicilian summers. The farmers from Sicily work together with Farnese Vini, thereby combining their knowledge and sense of style. As a result, it is a very young and dynamic company.
