Bricco delle Ciliegie Roero Arneis is a pure, aromatic wine with aromas of exotic fruit, peach, and white flowers. The taste is delightfully fresh and mineral with refined acidity and a long finish.
The Piedmontese winery Giovanni Almondo is a true family business. Until the early 1980s, Giovanni primarily grew fruit there: peaches, strawberries, apples, and also grapes, but he sold those. He made wine himself from only a small quantity. His son Domenico changed that in 1980. As a newly graduated agricultural scientist, he decided to start making wine from arneis, nebbiolo and barbera. The company grew both literally and figuratively under his leadership and in 1984 the first bottles were exported to the United States, Germany and Switzerland.
Today, annual production amounts to 90,000 bottles, the vast majority of which are Arneis. Domenico’s wife Antonella and sons Federico and Stefano all work in the wine business, and father Giovanni and mother Teresina can also still be found regularly in the vineyards. The still young Federico has inherited his father’s craftsmanship and passion and will eventually succeed him as winemaker.
The municipality of Montà, where the winery is located, is the only municipality in Langhe-en-Roero that has a terroir suitable for both arneis as for nebbiolo. The northern part of the municipality has the highest vineyards in the region at 400 meters. The acidic soil there consists mainly of sand and is extremely suitable for fragrant and mineral Arneis wines. The southern part of the municipality lies at a lower altitude and the soil contains more limestone: ideal for medium-bodied Nebbiolo wines.
Temperate continental climate. The soil is rich in sandy deposits, rock, and calcareous clay. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 360 meters on slopes with an eastern and southeastern exposure. The grapes are gently pressed and carefully protected from oxygen to prevent oxidation. 95% ferments in stainless steel tanks at 17°C, 5% in barriques. The wine ages on the lees for 6 months before bottling.
Bricco delle Ciliegie Roero Arneis is a pure, aromatic wine with aromas of exotic fruit, peach, and white flowers. The taste is fresh and mineral with refined acidity and a long finish. Serve this wine at a temperature of 12-14 °C with refined starters, bruschetta with tomato and oregano, and with fish or vegetable dishes. Also suitable as a delicious aperitif wine.
